  • Village Speed Limit

The Parish Council want Derbyshire County Council to make changes to the speed limits within the village; requesting a 30mph zone from Calver through the village to the layby, with a 20mph zone from the Moon Inn to the Lovers Leap and a 40-mph limit to the junction with Eyam. Alongside the campaign with DCC the Parish Council want to engage with hauliers who regularly use the A623 to request that they ask their drivers to observe the speed limits the PC are requesting when passing through the village. • Parking in Stoney Middleton

With the start of the school holiday season we anticipate more visitors in the village. Invariably they will drive and need somewhere to park. The Parish Council would like to remind residents and businesses including holiday rentals that the areas with blue plaques saying “NO PARKING” must be respected. Cars parked in those locations impede access for ambulances, fire engines and in some instances residents accessing their properties. These areas are - The Bank - The Fold junction - The Nook - A623 junction - Outside the School - Between the Moon Inn and Denman Crescent on the High Street, , which is also protected by traffic cones. These areas have been designated with the full knowledge and approval of Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue. Please remember that ** Inconsiderate parking can cost lives **.

  • Stoney Middleton Community Resilience Plan

Stoney Middleton Parish Council is putting together a community resilience plan which will come into effect in the event of a major incident in which the village may have to rely on its own resources until emergency services are able to attend. There are many possible scenarios but they could include being snowed in, major flooding, serious road traffic accident, prolonged power outages, gas explosion etc. The plan would include "safe" locations were people could congregate, street wardens acting as contact points for neighbours, trades people who could help with fallen trees or other mechanical interventions. We would also like First Aiders and medical professionals and ex-service personnel to come forward. If you think you could offer a particular skill or would like to act as a point of contact, or if you would be able to put up residents who have to leave their home, we would like to hear from you. Please the Parish Clerk Anne Flint – smpc.clerk@outlook.com or telephone 01433 631782.

  • Temporary Traffic Lights A623 Lovers Leap

Stoney Middleton Parish Council has been informed by Derbyshire County Council that they will start remediation works on the Lovers Leap Rock Face situated between Hill Springs Laundry and the Curry Cottage in Stoney Middleton Since November 2019 when a rock fall triggered the emergency closure of the A623 there have been protective hay bales in place to protect the general public from further rock debris entering the carriageway. Since then, the Authority has continued to monitor the rock face and it is their intention to finally undertake the remedial works starting Monday 11th July 2022. These works will run for approximately 19 weeks until 25th November and will be conducted under traffic signal control with the Westbound lane being taken up by the traffic management enclosure. To facilitate this scheme most of the large layby a little further up on the South Side will be requisitioned for the establishment of the contractors' compound over the duration of the programme. The Parish Council met with representatives from Derbyshire County Council, the Contractor -Eurovia and Councillor Susan Hobson on site. Affected businesses and all statutory agencies had already been consulted. The temporary lights will be from outside the laundry to the end of the Indian restaurant. We stated that our priority was to avoid traffic queuing and idling from the Indian restaurant to the chip shop. We understand that the first week will be a period of bedding down to see how traffic flows and changes to phasing made , should there be a build-up of westbound traffic. The Parish Council will be monitoring the situation, but any comments, observations or suggestions must be addressed to: Andrew Yates Project Engineer Derbyshire County Council Email: andrew.yates@derbyshire.gov.uk Direct dial: 01629 539 283 Mobile: 07774 737 137
