Derbyshire Handy Van Network

The Derbyshire Handy Van Network is open to those who are 60 and over or are referred by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, the District or Borough Council Adult Social Services or Derbyshire Constabulary. You can phone and ask for the van to visit your home and help with the following:- – Home Fire Safety Checks – Smoke Alarms checked and fitted – Home Security Checks – Energy Efficiency Advice – Practical tasks for example: changing light bulbs, securing carpets and rugs, removing and hanging curtains, checking stair rails are secure and appropriate, installing key safes, path and door access clearance and securing tap washers to reduce dripping taps. The service will also, with your permission, make referrals to their partners for additional services ans support for example Telecare Installations. The partners are: – Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, – Derbyshire County Council – Adult Social Services – Derbyshire Dales District Council – Derbyshire Constabulary Each Household will be able to access this free service twice a year. The service is available Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm The service cannot offer an emergency service for plumbing or electrical problems- please contact the appropriate organisations.

Environment Agency Hotline – 24 hours a day
The Environment Agency is responsible for policing large-scale incidents of fly-tipping (more than a lorry load), hazardous waste in drums, and waste dumped in a way that can cause human health problems or serious harm to the environment. Incidents can be reported 24 hours a day.

Environment Agency – General enquiries
The Environment Agency also investigates unregistered waste carriers and brokers. It’s your responsibility to ensure that waste from your property only goes to authorised waste disposal companies. If the carrier is unauthorised and caught (or your dumped waste is found and traced), you are liable to a £5,000 fine and clean-up costs. You can check whether your tradesman or skip hire is a registered waste carrier by calling the Environment Agency’s general enquiries.

The tidiness of all motorways and major trunk roads is the responsibility of the Highways Agency. Complaints about litter or fly-tipping can be made to the Highways Agency Information Line.

Derbyshire County Council are responsible for the safe passage of traffic and maintenance of the roads of Derbyshire with the exception of roads in Derby City, trunk roads, and motorways. Derbyshire County Council “You report it – We’ll sort it” service.
