Stoney Middleton School Christmas Fair is a Huge Success

10.14.50pm GMT Wed 6th Dec 2006

Stoney Middleton School Christmas Fair attracted the whole village to the school last Saturday - 2nd December. The morning started with a wide range of stalls selling Christmas presents, cards, decorations, chocolates and even herbs for the Christmas cooking.

When everyone had shopped till they dropped there were festive refreshments, mince pies and home made cakes washed down with proper coffee or hot chocolate topped with cream and marsh mallows.

Father Christmas

All the children visited Father Christmas in his fairy grotto and received a Christmas present. Everybody indulged in some minor gambling with a raffle, tombola and other games including a treasure map, guess the number of sweets in a jar, guess the name of the dog, find the robin in the Christmas tree, guess what you are eating while blind fold, roll a marble down the shoot and pull a lucky string all organised and made by the children.

A highlight was the Christmas cake which had been made with ingredients donated by the school children who then made the cake under the supervision of Aunty Pat. Pieces of the cake were sold and £30 was raised to buy a ram for a village in Africa.

After all this excitement there was still more to come when the whole village joined in Carol Singing led by the Cressbrook band.

Finally the Friends, Parents and Teachers Association served up a hot lunch of baked potatoes with cheese or tuna filling followed by apple crumble or ginger sponge and custard.

When all was finished and the profits calculated a grand total of over £600 had been raised for the fighting fund.
