The walk home from Curbar

7.13.06pm GMT Tue 21st Nov 2006

County Councillor Nigel Allwood and District Councillor David Fearn, a retired head teacher, joined Charles Richardson, Jamina Wilkes and Lyn Holyoake with a buggy on a very wet and windy walk home from Curbar School at 3.20pm Tuesday 21st November.

A gloomy walk

Lyn reports: "It was beginning to get dark by the time we were due to leave school at 3.20pm but we braved the endless stream of traffic and large lorries and the inevitable spray and took 45 minutes to walk the route home".

"Five hale and hearty souls set off but we were tired cold and damp when we arrived back in Stoney".

Now you just see it - now it is gone

Councillor Nigel Allwood said "That was a cold, dirty, disgusting and noisy walk and certainly not suitable for young children twice a day. Walking this route twice per day (four 45 minute walks per day) for 6 years to get a child to and from school was not a good idea"

It was difficult to get good photographs in the fading light especially as all the car were using headlights but look out for the professional job in the Derbyshire Times and Matlock Mercury on Thursday.
