Dear Cllr Charles

Proposed Closure of Stoney Middleton School

It is with great regret that I have to write this letter. Stoney Middleton school may not be a large school but it is a very good one, the building may be old, but it is well maintained and the classrooms are bright with eye-catching displays to stimulate the children. This has resulted in the school twice being offered Beacon Status by Ofsted.

The village school is the heart of a rural community. Stoney Middleton school is used as a meeting room for the Parish Council, WI etc. and as a venue for many village events. Stoney Middleton does not have a village hall. If the school goes, the young families will move, then the shops and the pub will close. The village will become a community of old people. I have seen it happen elsewhere.

Lastly the idea of children walking to school on that busy main road is not acceptable. It is not possible for all children to be accompanied by an adult as in many families both parents work. Please Cllr. Charles will you walk from Stoney Middleton to Calver at 8.30 on a winter morning to see what we are expecting our children to do before making a decision about the closure of Stoney Middleton school.

Yours Sincerely

Cate Hunt
